Mentoring That Works−Together

Our program helps faculty clarify expectations, advance leadership development, build momentum toward career goals, and strengthen connections across the university.

Mentoring is widely shown to be essential to faculty success, retention, and professional growth. At IU Indianapolis, a structured mentoring initiative provides intentional, consistent support for faculty at all career stages.

Our Mentoring Approach

Using a panel-based model that places the mentee at the center, each participant is supported by a small group of colleagues with complementary perspectives and experiences.

Each mentee is paired with a small mentoring panel, which typically includes

• a lead mentor from their department
• a peer or near-peer mentor
• a cross-campus mentor from another school or department

Mentee's Role and Expectations

Mentees will

• attend a 90-minute orientation at the start of the semester
• meet monthly with their lead mentor
• participate in at least one full mentoring panel meeting per semester
• have access to optional community-building and professional development opportunities

Some assistant professors may already have mentoring within their school.

Mentoring for Faculty Success is designed to complement and broaden existing programs, offering additional guidance where it is most helpful.
