Faculty Search – Vacancy Process
These are things you need to affirm are taking place on the Vacancy Approval form (check the boxes):
Search Committee:
- Has at least 3 members.
- Members are diverse.
- Chair and committee members have received or will receive guidelines and training for appropriate and effective search techniques.
- You need the
dates when such training is or will occur.
- If you are unsure about training or how to access it, check “No” and someone from the Office of Academic Affairs will contact you.
Attachments (include each as a separate sheet; save coversheet and explanation sheets as one PDF):
- Explanation: Non-use of HERC
- Include only if HERC is not being used during PeopleAdmin posting.
- HERC is an option on the PeopleAdmin position page. IU pays for all postings to this source, and it is designed to reach diverse populations.
- Search Process: In one to two paragraphs, describe the following:
- 1. The steps to be taken to ensure an inclusive search process and the cultivation of a diverse hiring pool.
- 2. The relationship of this search to the unit’s diversity plan, OE) unit action plan, or strategic hiring plan.
- 3. The steps to be taken to engage in outreach beyond regular/normal advertising venues (list key venues).

- Ensure that this contains the required diversity language.
Attach the Vacancy Approval form with supporting documentation (if applicable) as one PDF to the PeopleAdmin Vacancy Notice.
What Will Happen Next:
If you indicate you need assistance with any step, or the steps seem to be too limited to reflect best search practices, someone will reach out; then when the information has been revised, the Vacancy Notice will be approved by Office of Academic Affairs.
